The Art and Grace of a Garden Arbor

Our daily lives are full of thresholds and transitions.  We cross from work to home to public gatherings.  We step from cars into buildings or from the lobby into the elevator.  There might not seem to be anything special about these everyday transitions, but if you think about it, each one is marked in some way by a clear delineation that says, “You are now crossing from this place to something new or different.”  A finely crafted wood arbor provides a graceful and beautiful transition from an ordinary space into a garden space that is anything but common.  An arbor invites and beckons guests to cast off cares and enter into a green and quiet place of rest and tranquility.

Garden arbors come in many shapes and sizes, with designs as traditional or offbeat as their owners.  Even the materials with which they are built and the plants that are encouraged to climb them say something about the person who chose it to adorn her entrance.  Of course, I will leave those interpretations to you the reader, and simply say that, for a charming way of setting apart special spaces, you cannot go wrong with an arbor.
